Credit ratings are an interesting thing. For a while they (your FICO Credit Scores) were used to price auto insurance and may still be, but some states have made that illegal. Does my bad credit score say I am a bad driver? I’ve never had an accident or a moving violation and I have been driving FOREVER!!!
Having made a few poor choices, I found myself unemployed and overdrawn. Does that make me stupid? NO, but as a single mom I did what I had to do to cover the grocery bill and for compensation far below what I am accustomed to making. Then the Florida economy took a nose dive…the job market still stinks, even for an Accountant (an Internet savvy one, at that) and I am still working for 62% of my normal salary. My home is in foreclosure and yes my credit is down the crapper. Who ever thought I would have something in common with Ed McMahon?? Does that make me unable to perform my job? Does it make me less skilled or knowledgeable about what I do? NO!!!! But it makes me last on the list for any future employment that might get me back to the rate of pay I need to cover the cost of life as I know it.
I love accounting, and I am damn good at it! I love Internet Marketing also, and took a shot at doing something new and different. I checked out the company I would be working for, tried to be careful, but in the end it was a mistake. One I have been paying for for almost two years. It’s like starting over.
I find employers also like younger (and supposedly higher energy) people to fill their position. Well, I have a ton of experience, and I am a pretty high energy individual also. How do you communicate that in a resume??
Back to Credit Ratings…you can work on rebuilding your credit yourself. In fact the credit bureaus prefer it. You can get your credit reports free at least once a year. It is good to check them, it can help you monitor for identity theft….But back to the point, why does my bad personal circumstance prevent me from doing a good job?? I would love your thoughts!
You can get a free credit report every year from AnnualCreditReport.com, be sure to check on your self at least that often!!
